Search Engine Optimization Basics (SEO Basics)

Dear Readers,

I don’t talk about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) a lot but it is something I’m pretty good at.  I’m not sure if you’d call me an expert because I don’t eat breathe and live it.  I do enough enough to get some good rankings though.

I was looking at an SEO consultant’s site the other day and they were selling some stuff that I think is sort of SEO 1999.

I thought a great topic for today would be to talk about SEO in 2010.  What are the basic things you need to be aware of?

When you’re trying to get a good search engine ranking you start with:

keywords

I mention this in my book Nichework Marketing but you can use Google’s free keyword tool.  You start by typing in a keyword or phase like “acai berry” and then it will spit out results of  keywords similar to that one.  The list could be rather long. However that gives you a starting point to build from.  You begin looking for longer keyword phrases based on your original short phrase.   You might try a “acai berry juice” for example.  It is searched for 49.500 times a month.  You might get even more specific like “buy acai berry juice” or “acai berry juice benefits”.

The more specific you are with your keywords (the longer the phrase) the easier it will be to rank for those keywords. This is what we call long tail keywords. There will be less competition. Most people will try to compete against the obvious keywords not the longer ones.  They’ll try and compete on “acai berry” “acai juice” or “acai berry benefits”.  If you just add in the extra words like “buy acai berry juice” “acai berry juice benefits” there will be less searches a month BUT you’ll be able to rank higher on the list at Google. You’ll probably find it’s easier to get rankings that way and you’ll end up getting more visitors than by targeting the terms everyone else is targeting.

I’m not a juice guy or anything. I just want to show you how I’d go about finding keywords to target.

This is one of the essentials to finding your niche. This is one of the essentials to standing out from the crowd and it’s one of the essentials to search engine optimization for your MLM.

In subsequent posts I’ll talk more about SEO for MLM. I’ll talk about some other important elements to helping your web pages rank well on Google.

PS. If you’re in a hurry I have a book I wrote called Nichework Marketin: The Step by Step Guide to Finding & Dominating Your Network Marketing Niche Online. I’m also going to start offering free webinars on the topic.  I just read a book about how I need to be offering more value for FREE so expect to see a lot more “free” stuff coming from me!
