What do you do immediately before bed?

Dear readers,

That’s an interesting title, right?  “What do you do immediately before bed?”

Research shows that immediately before sleep your mind is in one of it’s most receptive states.  What you feed your mind right before you sleep is very important. For example it can effect how well you sleep. If you’re focusing on reprogramming your brain to be more successful… If you’re focusing on growing as a person and overcoming bad thoughts and bad habits, then what you feed your mind is very important.

At this important stage just before you go to sleep what do you feed your mind?

I had the opportunity recently to share a room on a road trip with a team member.  This team member wanted to watch news, violent tv shows, etc.  He would go to bed with the tv on and usually it would be on some sort of news channel.  I don’t know if you watch the news very often but it is almost entirely junk.  Almost all of it is negative because we as people are attracted to the negative stuff.  A news show full of negatives is going to get more viewers than a news show of positives.

I decided about 6 months ago to block the news entirely.  I’ve probably seen one or two hours of news in that 6 months.  Many of you probably watch that much news a day!

I watch very carefully what I watch, listen, or read before bed.  Is it something negative? Is it something positive?  I’m very careful about what “junk” enters my mind.

I’ve also started a new strategy.  I read about Jerry Clark the motiviational, personal development, and network marketing coach.  He used to listen to personal development tapes in his sleep.  That sounded like a great idea to me.

I put a bunch of my personal development library on my iPod.  Now I listen to my iPod as I’m going to sleep.  That way I’m putting positive thoughts into my brain while it is in a very receptive state.  Instead of putting in negatives like most people who watch the news or some other junk while they go to sleep I’m listening to positive personal development audio.

I already feel better after only doing it for a few days.  It seems like my dreams and my sleep are better.  I feel more confident.  I feel more motivated.

I can’t wait to see what my results are after doing this for 30 days.  I’ll report back here and let you know what breakthroughs I have.

Do any of you listen to personal development audios? Do you listen to them while driving? How about before bed?

I’d love to get your feedback…

So true. We used to have a TV in our bedroom. Occasionally, I liked to lie in bed and watch TV to unwind but it was usually to watch a movie. My husband had a nightly habit to watch the news before going to sleep. It drove me crazy! I found it very disturbing as I tried to sleep and often had a restless night sleep. I’ll have to try your technique of listening to positive, motivation “tapes” on my iPod.
