Do You Know How to Relate to your MLM Prospects?
Do you know how to relate to your MLM prospects?
This is a key strategy to prospecting for your MLM.
If you can relate to your prospect they will feel more comfortable with you.
If you can relate to your prospect they will like you.
If you can relate to your prospect they will join you faster!
Simple right?
Have you ever bought MLM leads? Do you know why some people are more successful at working internet leads or online leads? Relating to your prospects is one way they win people over and build relationships with them faster… and remember people join people they know, like, and trust.
So what do I mean by relating to your prospect?
For example a network marketing leader I know is a huge college sports fan. He knows all the colleges their mascots where they’re located etc. When he is talking to a prospect in Kansas, even if he has never been there he can try to use stories to relate to them. He’ll say something about the Kansas Jayhawks or whatever and hopefully can relate to the prospect better.
Think about calling a southerner on the phone. I can say this because I live in Mississippi right now
Southerners speak slow. They tend to have thick accents, etc. If you are from up North or California or Canada or whatever then you’re going to speak differently. You’re going to speak faster. You may have a different accent. You may use different words.
Being able to relate to someone can lower those barriers and resistances.
I’m based in the USA. I’ve lived all over the USA (7 of the 50 states) so it usually helps. I’ve also traveled to many other cities as well. I can use some of these stories to relate to people. If I’m talking to a prospect and I can relate about visiting their city or living in the area or eating at a famous place, watching their baseball team, or whatever… I seem less like a stranger and more like an ordinary guy, maybe even someone they could be friends with. It’s all about building relationships.
Does that make sense?
Relating to someone is the first step in building a relationship with them.
If I can relate to my prospect I feel more like a regular guy and less like a salesman. They can envision working with me easier because I can relate to them.
If your prospect doesn’t like you they won’t join you in business! After all who would want to work with someone they hate!
How can you relate to someone?
Simple strategies anyone can practice are learning to match the way they speak. If they speak fast you should speak fast. If they speak slow you should speak slow. Loud, soft, etc. You want to try and match their speaking characteristics.
Other ways to relate to people are location based. Things like colleges, pro sports teams, landmarks, visiting on trips, weather, etc. Whatever stories you can use. If you’re talking to someone from up by the great lakes and it is winter you can talk about the snow or whatever… something to make you seem like you understand where they are from.
Are you a mom? Do you have kids? Are you a dad? Do you hear kids in the background? You may be able to relate on that basis.
Do you hear dogs barking in the background? What kind of dogs? Maybe you have dogs too.
Do you hear music in the background? A friend of mine in my business frequently has piano playing in the background. Her husband is a musician. Well that’s something that some people may be able to relate too. I’m not a musician, so I fail in that area
haha!
