When Is the Best Time to Send Emails?

Ever wanted to know when the best time to send emails is?

Aweber just posted some information on what times of day / days of the week do some big name retailers post to their mailing list.

Aweber is a professional mailing list service. Many large and small companies host their mailing lists with them. I have used them for 4 or 5 years now. I also have to admit I’m an affiliate of Aweber (but I’d recommend them anyway.)

A few key notes from their article on email timing:

Even companies that mail 6 days a week don’t email on Mondays. They feel that most people are trying to catch up on their email/work on Mondays so they don’t email on that day.
Most companies email in the morning. A few email between midnight and 8 AM.
Only a few companies email in the afternoon. One such company emails at 3 PM to remind people before they end their shift at work for the day.
A lot of companies only email on weekdays and don’t email on weekends.

A few years back I did some coaching with a top internet marketer. He is known for his mailing lists and he has his own mailing list service much like Aweber. He recommended that Tuesday thru Thursday are the best days for emails and that mornings work best.

Now why would people read emails on weekdays more than on weekends? And why would people read email more in the morning than in the evening?

That’s right. The best time to send emails is when people are at work!

Almost everyone I know checks their email from work. (At least anyone with an office job.) When they are at work you have a captive audience. When they leave work they may get busy with other things and may not check email.

Almost everyone, even those that can’t check their email at work check their email first thing in the morning. When I used to work a day job where I couldn’t check my email from work, I would get up early, make some coffee, have some breakfast, and check my email.

I feel that the reason why most companies email during the morning on weekdays is because of work.
