Should You Have a Facebook Fan Page or a Facebook Group for your business?

Facebook fan page badge Should You Have a Facebook Fan Page or a Facebook Group for your business?Dear Readers,

Have you ever wondered, what the difference between a Facebook Fan Page and a Facebook Group is?

Have you ever wondered which would be best for your business?

Earlier this week I wrote an article about the differences between a Facebook profile, fan pages, and groups. This week we’ll talk specifically about Facebook Fan Page vs Facebook Group. Which is better for our MLM business?

This chart is a good starting point and shows some of the differences between the two:

facebook fan page vs group Should You Have a Facebook Fan Page or a Facebook Group for your business?

You might glance at the chart and think that Facebook Fan Pages are the best option. In many cases the answer would be yes. However there are certainly times where a Facebook group is better!

Facebook groups tend to be better for discussion. Think like a message or discussion board. Facebook groups can provide more frequent updates to members which helps with the interaction. Members can even receive email updates when people post to the group. Facebook groups can also be more closely moderated. You can keep your groups private and can even kick out people who you don’t want in your group.  You can have a private group for members of your team.

Fan Pages definitely have advantages over groups. A few advantages I really like are the ability to share with others and the ability to get “insight” into my fan page members. I love that my fans can recommend my site to others or can even add a link to my fan page to their own pages. I also love the fact that I can view statistics that tell me where my fans are from, what ages they are, if they are male or female, and how active they are.

Many people like fan pages because you can add applications to your fan page.  For example you can setup an application that automatically posts your articles from the RSS feed on your blog.  (I personally don’t like auto posting articles.)

One final thing about fan pages… Don’t underestimate the fact that because you can make a page specific to your business, product, or web site… your fans will expect more advertising. You can get away with a more aggressive marketing style on a fan page.

I admit I am not fully taking advantage of my fan page… (You can see my fan page here.) I haven’t yet started using social ads to promote my site. That will be one of my next steps. I also haven’t customized it too much. Those sound like great topics for a future articles!

Check back next week for more about Facebook fan pages. I’ll share with you some tips for getting more fans to your page.

I would like to say that FaceBook can become an effective advertising tool in the hands of skilled marketer. So if you select the right strategy you have good chances to receive high ammounts of regular targeted traffic to online business. FaceBook is also a good solution for brand development.

Terje,

Did you hear that big brands like Pepsi didn’t advertise in the Super Bowl this year? Instead Pepsi decided to invest the money they’d normally spend on expensive Super Bowl commercials to do social media marketing! That says how important this is. To big brands like Pepsi they feel that social media is more important than Super Bowl commercials!
