Tips to Get More Fans for Facebook Fan Pages
Today we continue our series of articles on Facebook Marketing.
Would you like some tips on how to get more Facebook fans for your business fan page?
Making a fan page is easy… but getting fans to like you is the hard part.
If you notice the picture to the left, this is my Facebook personal profile photo. Notice how I have added text the bottom of the fan page. In this text I direct them to go to my fan page.
I got this idea from a few really popular people who had a lot of followers on Facebook. They had reached their friend limit so they began directing people to their fan page. (Your friend limit is around 5000 users. The actual number usual varies slightly and can be a little more or less than 5000)
Now I know some of you might not be able to add the text or graphics to your profile photo so I’m here to help! Here is a free software program for editing photos & graphics. It is called GIMP and stands for Gnu Image Manipulation Program. (No it’s not a S&M program! LOL.)
You can use GIMP to add some text to your profile image to direct people to your fan page. I added some white background to the bottom of my image then added the text over the white background.
Important Note: Make sure when you upload the photo to Facebook you use the “crop” function. This allows you to crop the small profile photo that shows up next to your status messages. You want to focus the small photo on you and not the text
For me as I mentioned last week, I have a hard time keeping up with even 900 followers on my personal profile. That is why I decided to start directing people to my fan page. I am only allowing my close friends and family to have access to my personal profile.
When I receive a friend request from someone I don’t know or someone that might be an aquaintance, I send them a message back that directs them to become my fan. Here is the message I send:
Thank you for the friend request.
I have setup a fan page for my fans/followers to keep up with me. You can find the shortcut to my Facebook fan page at:
http://www.benfitts.comI no longer accept friend requests from people I don’t know personally. As it is I have too many Facebook “friends” to keep up with my close friends and family. That is the reason why I’ve switched over to a fan page for many of my business connections.
I hope you understand and I look forward to chatting with you on my fan page.

Now when I receive a friend request from someone I don’t know personally I go to their profile and click on “send a message”. I cut and paste this message in. That way I can politely decline the offer and hopefully pick them up as a fan.
Let me know if these strategies help you get more Facebook fans. I’d love to hear your success stories.
