What is the most important thing for network marketers?
I was having a discussion the other day with someone on a web site.
He was saying that the most important thing in network marketing was training.
I do agree that this is an important thing, but I don’t think it keeps you from failing.
I think what keeps you from failing is persistent effort. You have to be constantly working and building your business. You can be horrible at it, but if you keep talking to people the “law of large numbers” says that you will eventually find someone who says yes. Even if you always say the wrong thing, even if your product is horrible, someone will eventually buy from you.
I started out like that. My marriage was in trouble because I was working 80-100 hours a week. I had been laid off and in order to get a new job my wife and I took a $20,000 paycut. I was really motivated to go out and do whatever it took to succeed.
I wasn’t a success right away. Not even within my first 2 years. I just kept working at it and I made enough money to keep me going. I didn’t have mentors or a training system at first. I got started mostly because a friend showed me the business and it made sense to me. I didn’t ask my friend if he had a proven system, I just asked him where to signup.
Most people that join a network marketing company are like this. Someone they know and trust pointed them to their company/product. So they joined them without doing research into the company, their upline, their training systems, their business systems, etc.
Guess, what? That is ok! I’m living proof that you can still succeed even if you don’t have an upline who helps you.
Heck, my good friend Diane has been doing this for years. She says I’m her first upline that truly acts like an upline and helps work with her team. Usually Diane has been on her own. Her upline wasn’t helpful so she had to invent their training systems and she had to do it herself.
I’ve even seen it happen where someone got awesome training but they never did anything with it. Their fear prevented them from acting on it. They were afraid of failure. So they didn’t do ANYTHING and ended up failing anyway. What they actually did is known as “getting ready to get ready”. They not only learned my system, but then they went out and learned another system. They kept studying and trying to learn how to do it, but they never DID anything.
The BEST thing you can do is simply:
Do it!
Don’t give up.
Keep talking to people. Keep learning. Keep building your business. Take persistent action to build your business every day.
I agree that training is good, but it isn’t any good if you don’t actually get out and do anything!
Do you disagree?
Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
