New Media Marketing

I recently got turned on to a cool new medium for marketing.

My friend CC Chapman is new media specialist. He is known mostly for his podcasts but he’s a pretty smart marketing guy and calling him a podcaster wouldn’t be doing him enough justice. He has a great new media marketing podcast which talks about all kinds of new media marketing not just blogs and podcasts. His podcast is called Managing the Gray.

What do I mean by New Media? I mean what some people might consider underground marketing on the internet. People who use innovative new techniques to market their product, their business, and their brand. The most well known are probably blogs and second would be MySpace. Yes you can market your product on MySpace if you know what you are doing and if you have a product that suits the younger technology market. I don’t think you can market very effectively on MySpace if you are marketing to retirees but if you are marketing to teens, twenty somethings, and technology savy 30 somethings then you can definitely market there.

There are lots of other new media ways to market. Like blogs podcasts are a new media marketing tool. Web sites like Friendster might not be popular anymore but Facebook, LinkedIn and others are replacing them. More recently there are virtual enviornments like Second Life. Look, right now you might not understand what Second Life is… but what if I told you several years ago how popular blogs or myspace would be? What if I told you in 2000 to setup your site and the rewards will come. That is what Second Life is now. It is a brand new place for you to market yourself or your business. And Second Life is fun too!

I’ll get more into what Second Life is soon. For now make sure you go check out CC’s Managing the Gray podcasts. Quite a few have covered topics like Second Life and you’ll learn a heck of a lot about marketing in a new media enviorment.

C.C. Chapman Says:

Thanks for the nice write up and link love all around.

The world is changing so quickly as you know and that is why I started the podcast was to share the information with as many people as I could.

After all, the more people who know and succeed in these new mediums, the more we ALL succeed.
