The Myth of Switching MLM Companies
Have you ever heard the phrase that it’s always greener on the other side?
Perhaps you have been talking to someone who left your company to join the latest greatest company. They’ve got a car bonus anyone can get. They’ve got unique new ingredients and celebrity endorsements and everyone is making more money there than with your company.
Does this sound familiar?
This is the myth of switching MLM companies. It’s know as the grass is greener.
The reality is the grass is rarely greener. People trying to convince you to switch companies or telling you it is ok to build multiple companies at once, are doing so because they want to sponsor you! Very rarely do you find a guru telling you to stay where you are! Big Al, Tom Schrieter is one of the few gurus I know who says “stay where you are!”
Big Al says that you may be having problems in your existing company, but when you switch companies you’ll run into new problems. There are no perfect MLM companies but there are lots of GOOD companies. Meaning no matter where you go there will be problems. Even hot new companies will eventually run out of product, have new competitors pop up, have FTC investigations or bad press. It happens to everyone at some point. Even good companies can run into problems where one bad distributor gets into trouble and generates a ton of bad press. It’s not the company’s fault.
Another problem people have aside from the idea that everything will be perfect… is thinking they can switch companies and instantly get back to the same level. You can’t get back to the same place instantly. It takes time!
I have recently noticed a couple people switching programs annually. Yes they may be a “name” and may attract a lot of people right away… but what about a year later? How many people from their original downline have come over with them?
What if 50% come over in the course of a year. That actually means you have LOST 50%.
Then you realize this company isn’t as good as you thought and you switch AGAIN. Let’s say the same results. Over the course of a year you are able to get 50% of your downline to transfer. You’ve actually LOST 75% of your original downline!
And that’s with 50% retention. What if your retention is only 20 or 30%!
As a leader sure I could make a lot of money by switching. There are a lot of people I’ve come into contact with in my business that would love to have me as a sponsor. Maybe they are an orphan, their sponsor is inactive, or realize they picked a bad sponsor. Maybe they just didn’t know any better. A friend showed them the business and they saw the potential but their friend isn’t a good sponsor and they may not have an upline leader that is willing to work with them.
I know if I switched not only could I get a lot of people I’ve personally sponsored to switch… I could get a lot of people in my company to switch… and I could probably also reach out to prospects and friends that might be more interested in a new company than my existing one.
But that’s just me… What about my team?
Here is where the myth of switching MLM companies really comes in…
- Can my team get people to switch too?
- Will they be able to make their money back quickly?
- Will they be able to replace their checks quickly?
- Will the switch confuse them?
- Will they get paralyzed by all the changes and having to learn a new system?
I wonder if some of these people switching companies every year or two are thinking this way. Are they thinking of their team or just thinking of themselves?
For me I’ve been with Send Out Cards for almost 9 years. I’m not going anywhere! I see my team growing consistently. Our volume is increasing and checks are increasing… and we’re still a small company! I can’t wait to see where this goes once we expand internationally!
