Introducing Ben Fitts
Hi guys,
My name is Benjamin Fitts. People usually call me Ben. I’m a 32 year old entreprenuer from Boston, MA. Don’t hold that against me as I actually have lived all over including: California, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Jersey, and New York.
I am a technology guy. In the early 90’s (1993) I was already on the internet. I wasn’t a computer guy in school but I’m young enough that I had a computer for most of my teenage years. When the internet boom happened I was in position to make a business from it. My first business was a regional internet service provider. While they didn’t go so well it did give me enough experience to move on and get a job in the technology field.
This was the beginning of the internet bubble which would eventually burst in 2000-2001. However for the rest of the 90’s a lot of money was being made. Companies were going public and people were becoming millionaires over night. I thought I would go work really hard for one of these companies and after a few years my company would go public and make me very wealthy.
In 2000 I was working at a dot.com that was my dream job. I really enjoyed working there. I enjoyed what we were doing. I enjoyed the people I worked with. I put every bit of effort I could into it. I was working 60 hours a week. When we had deadlines coming up I would work 80-100 hours a week. I didn’t start out that way, but I missed the last train going home a couple of times. Pretty soon I was sleeping over night at the office. I did this so much that they bought me one of those Aerobed mattresses so I could sleep there more often.
Things were going great. I was a newlywed. We were making a lot of money. We were setting aside about $500 a month in the stock market which we were planning to use as a downpayment on a house.
I thought things were great.
It was February 2001. I was home sick. I got a call from one of the Vice President’s of the company. They were calling me to let me know that there were layoffs today. I was being kept on but my boss and several of my coworkers were let go.
WHAT?
This was not the way things happened in my dream!
I ended up being laid off April 15, 2001. The job market had changed drastically over the past year. Instead of having dozens of interviews and half a dozen job offers to choose from, I didn’t have anything lined up.
What was worse was I realized my marriage was in trouble. Working 80 hours or more every week was killing our relationship. My wife was lonely. She probably was even getting depressed. I thought that perhaps moving somewhere closer to one of her friends and buying that house would be a way to cheer her up.
So we moved from Boston to New Jersey, bought a house, and took two new jobs. We got paid $20,000 less than we did in Boston, and we had to purchase a second car. Our net income dropped and we could barely pay the bills and keep up.
I didn’t know what to do.
That was the point at which I found network marketing for the second time. I was aware of network marketing and how I could build a home business for very low cost, but when I looked at networking in the mid 90’s it didn’t appeal to me. I thought working for a dot.com and going public were how I’d make my dreams come true. I figured I’d work really hard for a few years and then my dot.com would make me rich. We’d go public or be bought out and I’d make enough money that I could buy that dream house and then I could take a job I wanted and enjoyed instead of one that paid me the most money.
Network Marketing (MLM) was the answer. In networking you truley can build a significant business in just a few years time. Your paycheck is based on your efforts. If you work really hard building your business you can definitely go from nothing to quitting your job in just 3-5 years.
I’ve been network marketing now for a little less than 4 years and am starting to experience serious success. I make weekly bonus checks and large monthly checks. I’m looking to quit my job next summer.
How many other 32 year olds can say that?
I’m going to share my experience here on these pages so that you can find out just what it takes to start your own home business. You can learn from my mistakes and my success. Yes, I’ve screwed up a few times and had some small failures but I’ve learned from everyone of them and it has made me more successful in everything I do. My marriage is stronger because of it. My work for my employer is stronger because of it. My home business is growing by leaps and bounds.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and share with me. Please feel free to leave comments or email me with questions or suggestions. I’ll be glad to help in any way I can.
Regards,
Ben Fitts
