Do you have Leadership Potential?
Do you have leadership?
Earlier this week someone from my team called to ask for some advice. She was complaining about her lack of upline support and she was reaching out to me because her immediate upline hasn’t been helping her.
While upline support is important it isn’t essential.
I don’t have an upline any more. They quit or sold out of the business years ago. So it’s just me. There’s no one else for me to blame but myself. If I don’t succeed it’s just me to blame.
Some people might be shocked. But the reality is when you know you have leaders is when you know that they will continue in the business with or without you. When you have real leaders they are the kind of perrson that can do things without you. Sure you’re help can help them succeed faster but they’re unstoppable. Even if you quit the business they would continue on and continue building without you.
I’m not saying upline support isn’t helpful. Upline support can help you go faster because you don’t have to do it all yourself. Your upline can provide training or resources that you can plug your team into. You won’t have to create these tools and training materials from scratch. That allows you to focus on recruiting and helping your new people get started quickly.
But you know you’re a leader when your upline isn’t helping and you STILL succeed.

If you’re looking for upline support that provides free training, free marketing web sites, and support then I think I do that

I’d have to very much disagree with this. A person that succeeds despite lack of support from any upline may be self motivated, be highly driven and have the skills already necessary to succeed but that doesn’t necessarily equate to leadership skills. It could be suggested that there is a strong coorelation between being all of the above and being a leader but they are not one in the same.
A leader is:
1. One that leads or guides.
2. One who is in charge or in command of others.
In network marketing, orphans do exist. And orphans can succeed without support of an upline; but having that upline support dramatically increases the odds for success.
Hi Nicole,
We both agree actually. I think for example I would be going faster if I had upline support. Instead I have to create the training tools and stuff for our team because I don’t have an upline to do that any more.
I just don’t think it’s a valid excuse. Saying “I don’t have an upline” isn’t an excuse for not building a business. You can plug into training from Todd Falcone, Jeff Combs, Big Al, Kim Klaver, Doug Firebaugh, etc. Anyone can do that. AND you can even buy personal coaching from someone. I’ve been to some of Big Al and Jeff Combs events for example. I’ve been to some weekend long events and I probably should consider a weekly coaching call with one of them. I can replace my lack of upline support with “professional” mentorship.
So that’s where I was going with this…
And Nicole, I created that discussion forum you asked for. I added the “accountability” section to the team forum
