Make Adsense ads smarter – filter out text, so your ads are highly targeted
I found this AWESOME adsense tip I thought you guys would like to check out. It’s by Eric Giguere one of the masters of Google Adsense. Check out his blog for lots of cool adsense tips.
Did you know that you can actually tell Adsense that you only want the adsense crawler to index part of your web page? You can have the crawler filter out words or entire sections of your site. So lets say for example you are a blogger. You have your blogroll of all your friends but maybe some of their sites don’t have anything to do with your topic. If the adsense crawler were to index the blogroll he might pick up some alternate keywords and start displaying some really wonky ads.
Another example are the headers and extra information on your site. For example on this blog I have a lot of links to rss readers and blog directories. I don’t want them to get indexed because Adsense might think my site is only about blogs, right. I’ve actually seen a lot of blog ads on this site, when my site isn’t neccessarily about blogging! So what I’ve done is use this code to have all of my sidebar content excluded. Now when Google’s Adsense crawler indexes my site they’ll skip the sidebar.
Here is the code you will want to use.
At the end of the text you want to ignore, place this comment:
You can use that code as many times as you want in your text. However be careful! If you forgot to put an end tag you could end up having an awful lot of your content that is not indexed!
