Twitter is a funny animal. It really isn't that difficult to get a lot of followers, but the trick is to get followers that actually put a value on what you have to share. A lot of people marketing on twitter go overboard. They just market their business constantly and don't really provide value to the conversation. I think if you provide interesting conversation and develop relationships with people then networking will be the natural result.
