Personality traits we don’t want in our team members!

When we think of personality traits we want to see in our team members we often think of the good traits.  We try to find people that personify the leadership we are looking for.

However one thing I’ve discovered is that it is a little like “Yin and Yang”.  The reverse is just as important.  It’s equally important to know what the negative traits are.  Especially when you have big teams you want to focus on working with the right people.

A few “experts” out there might not approve of my calling it like it is, but when you have a team of hundreds or even thousands or tens of thousands of team members you have to focus on the right people.  You cannot allow the bad people to drag you down.

I for example have some people who I come into contact with that are maybe overly selfish. They’re only worried about making money for themselves not helping their team make money.  Maybe they’re only focused on new people and not people who they’ve already sponsored.   Other people might talk bad about team members or cause negativity in the ranks.

A lot of times you’ll find team members that ONLY focus on the negative.  They only call with complaints.  They never do things for themselves but always call you to ask you how to do it.  You want to figure out who these people are so that you can make their contacts a low priority.  You might not want to answer their phone call but instead let it go to voicemail.  You might not want to return their phone call right away or perhaps respond via email only. Often times by forcing the negative distributor to wait they will get over their issue which was so urgent to them.  They might actually go and figure out how to do it themselves or perhaps their anger or frustration over their issue dies down and they’re able to think and react more clearly.

You have to keep your distance from the negative people so you can have more time to focus on the positive.  This is how truly successful leaders get to whether they are.

What do you think?  Am I off my rocker?  Have you had any experiences like this? Do you have any tips?

Yes anyone that negative I really don’t want on my team. They are constant complainers and eventually just quit because they never treated it like a business in the first place!

If you keep doing the work for people in your down line they will never do it for themselves. Yes, you must provide support but the best support is teaching them how to do it themselves. Simply provide the tools they need, show them how and let them do it.

You know … they may stumble a bit but this is how one learns a skill.

Negativity brings everyone down around them and it is not something that I want on my team. I am not a cheerleader, a therapist, nor a babysitter. I mentor and train people and show them how to do things, correct errors, but I will not spend time knocking out the negativity, because no matter what you do eventually they are going to blame you and everyone them around them.

Negative people do not take accountability on themselves, rather they like to blame everyone else.

Personality Trait that I would like to avoid online and offline

A couple of real benefits to finding prospects online is that the attitude of one negative distributor ceases to be important. You can always place a new person or two under him to keep him quiet, and that can sometimes give them a boost in belief. Secondly my online prospecting system tends to filter out whingers before they even get near my business. I can’t be doing with those people. Had enough of them in the 1990s when I was trying to succeed in MLM without the internet. Oh boy! Nice blog, Ben.

Branding yourself is more important than branding the company. What is the company folds or goes bankrupt. These things are completely out of our control. The only thing we can control is ourselves. People tend to join us before they join the opportunity. As long as you have a network of people, I think one can be successful in any MLM opportunity. Being positive certainly is a good trait for any leader to have.
