What do you say to a Send Out Cards prospect?

What I found going out door to door talking to business owners with my dad last week…

We had our best reactions when we asked questions.

When we asked: What do you do to communicate with your customers? Do you send follow up or thank yous?

When we asked questions like that we got them to start talking and we could figure out what to say. I could actually answer questions or speak to specifics.

I was in a bed and breakfast and he said his wife sends out cards to the customers who are repeat business. Thats only 100 out of 1200 customers! So they ignore the other 1100 people unless they come back to visit the B&B. Of course they might not come back because they never got a thank you or follow up card!

It became really simple to talk to them just because I asked them a question.

Does that make sense?

PS. I still find Send Out Cards extremely easy to talk to people about. I have a MUCH higher success rate than selling phone services. It still takes work and you have to talk to several people to find one person that is interested, but our product is so unique that it is generally a lot easier to find someone interested.

As you know my good friend Jack Spirko works for a search engine optimization firm. The other day he announced he’d be running for the Texas House of Representatives.

I guess the deal is that the incumbent has pulled some pretty dumb moves lately and everyone wants change in the district. Some of Jack’s friends suggested he run for office. Jack decided, “Hey, why not!” so now he’s running for Texas House District 94.

Jack’s still working on his web site but I’m sure it will be interesting to watch how a search engine guy markets his election campaign on the internet. If you thought Howard Dean’s MoveOn.org campaign was powerful I bet Jack’s will be even better.

I’ll post here occasionally and let you guys know what cool and unique ways Jack comes up with for marketing his election campaign.

As a former poly sci. major I’m pretty excited to follow along and see how it works out. Hey, maybe when he becomes President some day I can be a member of his cabinet? What cabinet post would I be suited for?

Hi guys,

I’ve mentioned Today’s blog before. It is a really awesome blog about making money with Google AdSense. Eric Giguere is the author of the book Make Easy Money with Google AdSense.

I know some of you don’t use Google AdSense so this doesn’t make much sense to you.

However I’m telling you NO MATTER what your business is you could probably benefit from putting Google AdSense ads on your web site.

I was doing Pay Per Click ads for Dish Network on Google AdWords. I decided to put a few Google AdSense ads on the page to see if I could recoupe some of my advertising costs. Boy was I surprised to find out I was able to recoupe about 1/3 of the costs! Who knew that many people were clicking on another ad and leaving the page.

Guess what? I still got a lot of orders for Dish Network.

You might not think that you can fit AdSense on your site, but I bet if you try it out you’ll be surprised. Check out Eric’s book and his blog.

I’m working diligently to launch my new web site this weekend.

Today’s blog is SEO Book. This site is run by Aaron Wall. If I remember correctly one of his first big web sites was a weight loss web site which got tons of top search engine rankings. He then started to focus more and more on search engine rankings, building additional web sites, and eventually wrote the SEO Book.

He writes at least once per day on the topic of search engines. Instead of my having to read every search engine optimization blog on the planet, I can read Aaron’s site. He’ll usually point me to any good articles on other sites.

Hi guys,

The time management class today was pretty cool. I learned a couple of things that I know will really help me to stay organized and be more effective in how I spend my time.

However as a part of my time management, I need to keep focused on my greeting cards business and the new subscription based marketing web sites I’m working on.

So today I’m going to tell you about another one of my favorite blogs. Yesterday I told you about Matt Cutts who is a Google Employee. Well today’s site is the blog of a Yahoo employee. Jeremy Zawodny’s blog is a must read if you are interested in the search engine world. It is especially fun to read after reading Matt’s blog because the two tend to disagree on things.

Another cool thing about both Matt and Jeremy’s blog is that they also talk about their personal life. It allows you to get to know them a little it better. (This is something I think I can learn from and I am going to try and merge my business and personal blogs together in the future.)

Hey guys,

I had an awesome night last night working on my subscription site project. At 12:30 AM I was pretty close to done but I wanted to get one more thing done. I ended up getting more accomplished than I expected to. Thats always a good thing!

Tomorrow I’m attending a workshop on time management. Perhaps they’ll figure out a way to get me to work hard all the time instead of just when I have a deadline.
