$9273.50 earned in 51 hours using Butterfly Marketing techniques

Don’t think Butterfly Marketing is woth the $1000 investment? You are WAY wrong.

Here are my stats from launching my first Butterfly Marketing subscription site:

I had a launch call to announce the site and offered a launch day special for the first 27-28 hours.

3 hours immediately following launch call. 9pm – 12pm Thursday Feb. 16

Launch Day Special Sales
18 * $147 = $2646

Monthly Membership Sales
2 * $9.95 = $19.90

Day 1 – Friday Feb. 17

Launch Day Special Sales
24 * $147 = $3675

Monthly Membership Sales
4 * $9.95 = $39.80

Day 2 – Friday Feb. 18
Bonus was extended due to complaints from users who were having problems with PayPal

Launch Day Special Sales
16 * $147 = $2352

Annual Membership
1 * $99 = $99

Monthly Membership Sales
4 * $9.95 = $39.80

Miscellaneous: Upgrade Commissions from Thank You Page
12 * $33.50 = $402.00

TOTAL: $9273.50

In my first site I already earned back a total of 900% of my investment in Butterfly Marketing. Heck I’m on the 3 month payment plan, so I’ve actually only paid $379 so far. That would mean my first site has earned over 2400% back on my $379 investment.

Butterfly Marketing is well worth the investment!

Lessons Learned launching a subscription web site

I just launched a subscription site. People are buying turnkey marketing sites for a network marketing business (Send Out Cards). These people are independent distributors and are looking to improve the marketing of their business. I already have a personal team of 850+ distributors so I had a good base of people to start with.

See some of the sites at our custom greeting cards web site.

Setting out for my launch, I read through the Butterfly Marketing manuscript. I had already been using a blog and emails to build some prelaunch buzz. I had attended a blogging class last year where they suggested this method, plus I learned by watching Mike launch Butterfly Marketing. I didn’t have the manuscript at the time, I just sort of got lucky that I was doing some of the right things.

I had also been allowing people to get marketing sites for free from me. I had 532 people getting free sites from me.

Going into the launch I used some of the pre-launch formula’s in the manuscript. I used the prelaunch email headlines Mike describes. Plus I listened to the bonus call on email marketing to help a bit with the crafting of the messages.

I also had a private introduction with my leaders. In Network Marketing you have people building teams. So I met with 4 team leaders in advance to give them a sneak peek of the sites. I knew that they could help answer a lot of questions for me and that they could also help me build the buzz by marketing it to their teams. In your ventures, you will probably have JV partners that will fullfill the same rolls.

So far so good. I was building buzz.

I got a 99 line conference call system setup.
I got a 50 seat web conference system setup.

I wasn’t sure if this was enough or too much.

I’m also the progammer on this project.. because this is one of my first big projects I don’t have someone like Ionut to help me.

So pre-launch I was working on getting everything finalized. I was working on thank you page which led to my One Time Offer which was a cross promotion with a JV partner. I was also trying to sort out database issues and move over code from test to production. I thought 2 hours would be enough time, but at 8pm when my launch was supposed to happen I was still fixing code.

Mistake: I ended up having to get on my conference call and tell people that we would have to delay the launch for 30 minutes…

Mistake: I only had a 50 seat web conference room I ended up not being able to get into my own web conference because it filled up so fast. I had to ask someone to log out so I could get in.

Mistake: I had a 50 seat web conference room and a 99 seat teleconference. I ended up having users on the telconference that couldn’t get on the web conference. And people in the web conference that for some reason couldn’t get their speakers working. That wasn’t too bad because we had a little extra room on the teleconference and they could switch.

Mistake: I hadn’t taken into account that some people on the teleconference wouldn’t be able to see my presentation in the web conference room and didn’t even think about the fact that the people on the teleconference might want access to the same presentation. I had to quickly put the presentation on the web for them to view.

Mistake: I had tested a couple of features but hadn’t allowed myself enough time to get all the code in place before unveiling. This meant that when I launched and people started looking around the sites we had some major errors. For example: People could subscribe but when paypal sent them back to my site it was erroring and they were not being automatically upgraded. I had to go through a bunch of orders and manually upgrade people. Plus the errors just made the system look poorly designed.

A lot of things I did right:
I obviously built good buzz as I had more people on the launch than I expected.

I had a launch day special (similar to a One Time Offer (OTO)) where people could get a 2 year subscription for about 2/3rds the cost. Plus a bonus with my Joint Venture (JV) partner. I’m not sure how many people have registered with my JV partner, BUT I do know that 25% of my total paid subscribers have also purchased an upgrade from my JV Partner. I’d say thats a pretty good match. I know my JV partner might be disappointed because I only sent him 7 sales, but 7 sales out of the 28 people to upgrade from my site is not bad. I’m sure we’ll continue to increase those numbers over time.

15% of my subscriptions are coming from people who can’t afford (or don’t see enough value in) the 2 year special and are purchasing monthly subscriptions.

I had a support person (my wife) who works with me and was logged into the web conference room with us. This person was able to handle some questions and was able to save the hard questions for me to answer at the end of my launch call. I also had a new support person listening in to learn what all the buzz is about and learn how to answer some basic questions.

Even with the bugs I still launched. I think this was a good thing because you have to set a deadline and go out and launch! If you wait until everything is perfect you will never launch. Obviously people still loved what they saw because I was getting a lot of upgrades.

Lessons Learned:
I would take more time to prepare. I would freeze all changes to my site a few days early so I could do more thorough testing.

I’m not sure exactly which one I’d do. I’d either get more web conference seats so that I have an equal number of web conference seats to teleconference…. or perhaps I’d only go with one service or the other. I really like the web conference system since I’m selling web sites it allows me to show off the sites in a controlled enviornment, and to control the flow of the question and answer session better.

I’m also going to work harder at Toastmasters. You guys are probably like, what the heck is Ben talking about Toastmasters for… or maybe you are asking… What is Toastmasters?

Toastmasters is a public speaking club. They have them all over the world.

I think I’ve learned a lot already about how to write a good presentation and how to present it, but I know there is a lot I can do better. Toastmasters is a way for me to get better in a casual environment. It allows me to learn these lessons in front of 20 friends instead of 150 business prospects ;)

I’d also look to offer additional thank you OTO bonuses. I need to develop my own bonuses so that I can keep 100% of the profit instead of a JV where I’m splitting the profits.

All in all, I think I had a really successful launch. So far with 14 hours left in my launch day special, I’m at 130% of my goal. I’ve already made 30% more than I expected.

This is definitely as a result of reading Mike’s Butterfly Marketing materials and listening to the conference calls.

Now the question is when the launch buzz settles down, can I keep my Viral Exponent (Vx) up. (You’ll know more about this when you read your butterfly marketing materials.) I’m taking launch day profits and hiring a copywriter to craft some additional marketing materials to provide to my members, which should help keep up the Vx. I’m also buying Camtasia so I can create some training videos.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I hope I have been able to offer you guys some advice you will find useful doing your own Butterfly Marketing Launches.

You can also follow along with my progress in the butterfly marketing section of my blog.

What is Butterfly Marketing?

What is Butterfly Marketing?

Butterfly Marketing is based on the concept of the Butterfly Effect. Not the movie but the weather phenomenon. The weather phenomenon states that something that happens like a butterfly flapping it’s wings in New Zealand may cause a typhoon in Hawaii.

You know Newton’s third law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

I dunno the whole details I’m not a weather guy! But you get the picture right? This is why weathermen can’t predict the weather for extended periods of time. A good weather man might be accurate 85% of the time when dealing with the 3 day forecast, but predicting 5 days or 7 days out is about as far as they can go… and the further out they go the less likely they are to get it right…

Anyway… Butterfly Marketing is the concept that subtle changes you make to your web sites can have a far reaching impact on their success rate.

An example from the Butterfly Marketing manuscript is that if your site averages 100 new signups a day… it will remain constant. If your site averages .9 signups a day… then today it will have 100 new signups, tomorrow only 90, the day after 81, etc. Eventually your signups will dwindle to just 1 or 2 new signups a day.

If you could tweak that site so that the signups stayed the same, you’d have a self sustaining web site and you can move on to other projects and put that site on autopilot.

If you could increase your signups to just 1.01 you’d have 100 signups today, 101 tomorrow, 102 the day after… etc.

Subtle changes you make to your sites can have far reaching impacts.

Maybe the change is simply having a professional fix the copy on your sales page. Maybe the change is simply changing the color of the headline. Maybe something that subtle will improve your signups!

Thats what Butterfly Marketing is all about. That is why I invested $997 in the product. You not only get the manuscript but you get 5 audio interviews, a couple of special reports, two video trainings, and the software to help you make your Butterfly sites.

The Butterfly is loose!

Hi guys,

Wow, it has been awhile since I wrote!

I wanted to apologize. I have had a couple of really important projects come up and I just haven’t had time to write.

1. My subscription site is going to launched Thursday Feb. 16. I’ve been trying to get my ducks in a row for that.

2. I bought the Butterfly Marketing package (a $997 investment) to learn to build viral web sites.

Thats why I haven’t been writing!

Today I’m home waiting on the cable guy, that knocked out my cable and my internet. I’m actually stealing internet from a neighbor’s unprotected wireless device!

I’ll give you an update on Butterfly Marketing later today…

I made a mistake: Autosurf programs

Hey guys,

It has been a few days since I posted. You’re probably wondering what the heck is going on.

I’m writing a whole series of articles on getting traffic to your web site. I’ll be writing about some tools that people often think are only used by newbies. I’ve found a way to make them work for me.

In fact I wrote earlier about traffic exchanges. I mistakenly called TrafficG and TrafficSwarm autosurfs. That is NOT correct. They are NOT auto surfs. They are manual surf traffic exchanges.

Uh, Ben what the heck does that mean?

An autosurf is apparently a sort of ponzi scheme. You simply load up their web page and it will automatically start surfing members, and paid advertisers web sites. The problem with autosurfs is two fold.

1. They don’t actually require you to view the member’s pages, you can surf the web sites in a minimized window. Basically you can ignore the pages. You don’t even have to click on an icon or link to get the next page. Every 15-30 seconds a new page automatically appears. This is a scam. You won’t get much in the way of real visitors who are interested in your product. All they are interested in is surfing their required number of sites every day. My feeling is that these companies are the ones who sell 100,000 hits for $40. They can afford to do it because they get a ton of traffic to their surf programs, yet the traffic is all bogus traffic.

2. The autosurfs promise to pay you out more money than you put into them. For example, one autosurf program promises that for every $6 you put in you’ll get 12% back every day for 12 days. You just have to surf a minimum number of sites. Well that would work out to be a 44% profit in just 12 days. That is simply NOT possible unless there were a lot of breakage where people weren’t getting their money back, a lot of people buying paid advertising, or something. Where is that extra 44% coming from?

Unfortunately I used the word autosurf when I wrote about TrafficSwarm and TrafficG. I want to apologize to the owners and memebrs of those companies. That is not what I should have said. I should have simply called them a Traffic Exchange.

The biggest difference with TrafficSwarm and TrafficG is that they require you to actually be paying attention when you surf their member sites. You have to click on a special icon or button, and which icon you click on changes. TrafficG has 5 icons and you have to match the icon in order to get credit for surfing. TrafficSwarm offers a similar strategy. They have a next icon and it switches from left to right at random. TrafficSwarm also will not give you credit if you already cisited that site, and they occasionally switch around the links to make sure you are paying attention.

I have been getting excellent results from TrafficSwarm in my latest round of testing with UltimateRep. Take a look at these leads I have been getting. 90% of these leads are coming from Traffic Swarm.

Here are my leads (opens in a new window)

Keep in mind what I told you before. These traffic exchange users already have a business and are just looking for ways to promote their business and get more traffic. Many of them are interested in other traffic exchanges or ways they can promote their existing business.

If you try and pitch them a business opportunity they probably aren’t going to respond. If you try and pitch them something outside of business and internet marketing… like if you tried to promote vitamins, you are probably not going to get a very good response rate.

A few other tricks you can use… Address them by name and get their attention. So I use headlines like “Traffic Swarm members” “Hey, TrafficG surfer” or whatever..

If you can use sound or video then this works even better! And unstoppable popups work well too.

I hope I have explained how autosurfs and manual surfing programs are different! Sorry about the confusion!

Yah! I was 13th to buy Butterfly Marketing!

It was just announced. The list of Butterfly Marketing top 10, 25, 100, and 200.

Each of us got bonuses for being among the first to purchase.

I was 13th. I missed out on being in the top 10 by 27 seconds. I think its safe to say the top 10 people used an autofill or roboform program to get their orders placed faster. Oh well!

I’m not complaining. I will still get a private 1 on 1 phone consultation with Mike Filsaime for 1 hour. I’ll be able to talk to him about an upcoming project I am working on and get his advice. Mike charges $1000 for this kind of one on one consulting, so that alone has allowed the program to pay for itself!

Pretty cool, right?

- Ben

PS. I setup a Butterfly Marketing category within the blog so you guys can follow along with me as I get the product, read the manuscript, and begin using the software.

The hype surrounding Butterfly Marketing

If you participate in any internet marketing forums, read any marketing blogs, or subscribe to any newsletters… You’ve probably been inundated with articles and promotions for Butterfly Marketing.

I’m not going to offer you any sort of special deal.

I just want to let you know what I’ve discovered since I purchased the program.

Yes the program costs $997 (plus $38 shipping and handling). You can also make payments for $379 for 3 months.

You get a written manuscript from Mike which has tons of great advice on how to generate a viral marketing explosion. You don’t believe me? Mike just sold over $600,000 worth of product in a SINGLE DAY. Wouldn’t you like to do that?!? He is telling that exact strategy in this manuscript.

You get some of the programs Mike uses to create this viral marketing explosion. These scripts are wizard based, meaning they have a simple 1, 2, 3 step process to setup. They’ll help you generate a web site (they even come with templates), generate sales pages, create powerful sales copy, create your affiliate program, manage your affiliate program, etc.

The purpose here is to really make this simple.

Thats all damn cool stuff right? I mean the guys making $10,000 plus a month online are all people who make their own products. But not all of us have the skills to do that, right? This system makes that easy.

Ok… That alone was reason enough for me to buy the program.

Since I bought the program I was emailed about the private community for members who bought the product. This is a pretty awesome community that is going to make the warrior forum look wimpy. This is an exclusive community. You’ll only have people who have invested $1000 in their business in here. You’re not going to have a lot of newbies. You’ll have a few but most of the people will have a clue. Already some joint ventures are being brokered, people are finding new business partners, etc. I’ve already received at least $200 worth of free products just because I am a member of this community.

You know I bet the community will be worth a lot more than $1000. So even if the Butterfly Marketing manuscript sucks, or the scripts don’t work, I’m still going to make my money back.

So thats the deal with Butterfly Marketing. That is why you hear all the hype!

Don’t believe me? Check out the sales letter and see for yourself. It is pretty compelling stuff.

Mike is only going to sell 1500 copies and he sold over 600 yesterday. You guys need to act fast if you want to try it out…. By the end of today there should be less than 500 left. By tomorrow they may be sold out, forever.

What do you have to loose?

See you on the top secret Butterfly Marketing MEMBERS forum :) I’m “BenFitts” there.
