One question I get asked by people is.

How do I get started with a home business?

At the heart of this question is really a different question. What type of web site should I make?

You see most people know they want to make a web site. Maybe they want to make some money from affiliate programs, adsense, chitika, whatever. However they don’t know where to start.

This is how my friend Jack just came up with an idea for a new web site.

The topic for his site is inexpensive wine. So here is how Jack decided to create a web site based on cheap wines.

First of all Jack likes wine. He usually has a little wine every day with dinner. Second of all Jack was talking to an accountant about tax deductions and they were discussing how as an author you can write of all kinds of cool things. Jack was thinking that if he had a wine web site he could write off the wine he buys, he could go on wine tours and write them off too. So Jack thought that might make a good topic.

So then Jack went to template monster and Pixel Mill to see what templates were out there. Low and behold he found a cheap template that looked like it would work well with a wine themed web site.

So Jack figured for $9 he could get a domain name, another $55 for a template. So for $64 he could be up and running with a wine web site. Then he’d only have to write some reviews. Oooh that’d be torture. Make Jack go out and buy a few bottles of wine. I think he was up for that challenge!

I’m not Jack, but in talking with him, I think that is pretty close to how he decided to make a web site themed around 10 dollar wines.

So, when you are looking to get started in internet marketing and want to create your first web site, think about your interests and hobbies. That’s how I came up with my HDTV Blog.
