A 2009 MLM Business Plan – Part 3

As I’ve been discussing recently one of the most important things you can do for your MLM enterprise in 2009 is to start with a business plan. (see the business plan category for related posts.)

So far I’ve come up with a little over 30 different things to work on in 2009.  I’m going to attempt to do these myself.  You might find some ideas here that are things you’re interested in. You also might be able to share some comments and give me some new ideas.  Please do!

This is week 25-36… the first 12 weeks can be found here, weeks 13-24 can be found here.

Week 25 Join some link / advertising exchanges
Week 26 Buy some text links
Week 27 Setup Google PPC Advertising
Week 28 Live everyday like it’s your last
Week 29 Recognize someone on your team that deserves recognition
Week 30 Hire an accountant
Week 31 Hire a virtual assistant
Week 32 Incorporate your business
Week 33 Join a networking group, like BNI
Week 34 Hire a PR Firm
Week 35 Write an ebook
Week 36 Setup a mailing list with an autoresponder

That’s all I have so far for 2009, but I’m sure I can find a few more things to add.  Do you have any ideas on things I can add to my action plan?

Starting 2009 right with a plan of action

I want to talk to you guys today about a topic I’ve mentioned several times in the past.

The topic of creating a plan of action or a business plan for your business.

As home business owners we sometimes neglect to follow standard business practices.  Most successful businesses have a business plan.  If you were to go to a bank or an angel investor and ask them to invest in your business, they’d want to see a plan of what you intend to do with your business.  Maybe if you asked a rich relative they wouldn’t care but investors who invest in businesses expect to see a plan.  They want to know what you are selling. They want to know how you plan to market it.  They want to know how much it costs to create. They want to know what your expenses are.  Etc.

Why is it that most home business owners don’t do this?  I have two ideas why.

1. They don’t know any better and weren’t taught the right things to do.

2. They don’t know how to do it and therefore are afraid.

One thing I believe will make it easier for you is to think of it as a “plan of action”.  Don’t think of it as a “business plan”.  To me a business plan means complicated. LOL.  A plan of action means a simple list of actions I’m going to take.

What I want you to do this year, right now, today. Is to begin to formulate a plan of action for your business. I challenge you to get a notebook and sit down for 15 minutes.  Clear your head. Turn off the tv.  Just sit and think about your business.  What are your goals for 2009? Write them down. Then, think about some of the activities that worked well for you last year that you want to continue to do this year. Write them down.  Then think about some new activities that you want to try and do this year.  Write them down.

This is your plan of action.

Over the next several days I’ll be describing to you my plan of action for 2009.  It’s pretty sophisticated because I’m a full time network marketer. Your plan of action might not be as sophisticated but that’s ok!

The first step is to create your own plan of action. Even if it’s just 5 thing you want to do this year.

How to End 2008 on the right foot

Here is one way to end 2008 on the right foot.

Start by finishing unfinished projects.

How does your office or work area look? Is it neat or messy? If it’s messy take some time out to clean it and organize your workspace for 2009.  I admit sometimes mine gets messy and I have to take some time out to clean it.  I use a lot of post-it notes and I have to organize those notes so I don’t loose them.

How about other projects?

Do you have a lot of unfinished projects? Things you started in 2008?  Maybe a web site you started?  Maybe a project around the house?  I have a couple of household projects that are 80% finished. I’m going to take some time out today and tomorrow to finish them up.

One of the things about cleaning up and finishing projects is that it is an emotional relief.  Having all that unfinished stuff is just extra baggage holding you back.  I know with my household projects I’m sensitive to the fact that they aren’t finished.  Sure I have excuses as to why they aren’t but I know it bugs my wife and she can’t do anything about it.  They are my projects.  I’m the one that needs to step up and take action on them.  When I do I will feel better about having accomplished them and I’ll be ready to go into 2009 on the right foot.

How about you?

What projects do you need to finish?
